Default Dave's 1966 Early Bronco build

Ok, I've been wheeling/guiding the smaller stuff here for a while now in a Desert Sand '99 XJ. I've had this '66 Bronco for quite a while and decided to get serious about wheeling it. I'm tired of Eddie, Fran and Billy and all the others having all the fun on the "big" stuff! You too Heather and Chris!A fewmonths ago I finally stopped working on everybody else's junk and got alot of my parts collected. This includes a '79 H/P D60 with 5.13's, rear Chebbie shaved
14bolt, new 351w and I've got an NP205/203 waiting to be coupled together to go behind the NP435. About 4" of suspension lift with Wild Horses coils up front on top of lengthened arms, JBG 11leaf rear springs, 2" body lift. Lots of fender cutting and I'm stretching the rear fenderwells as well. It's on 39.5 tsl's, really want to run 42's. Wheelbase is stretched to about 98 inches 4" in back, 2" up front. I'm always open for comments, constructive or otherwise!!

Here's a couple pics...

Caster isn't set yet on front end, need to set that and weld in "c" wedges, push steering box forward, make shock mounts, rear frame mounts, brake lines.

Gas fill relocated-

Extended stock arms, tires don't rub them, hope the 3/4" thread heims withstand one or two runs at least!

Cool! What color is it going to be? Are you planning on a cage?

Hi Chris! I'll just keep it Rustoleum Sunburst Yellow for now, since I've got a couple quarts stashed already and most of it is yellow right now. It will get a full family cage tied into the frame, some sliders for rocker panels and along the upper rear quarters. In the summer the windshield will be folded down or off.

Cool! Can't wait to see it wheel! EB's are cool!

How long until you are ready to take it out?

Chris

Hopefully it'll be ready later this summer.

Here's some more pics-
14b Chebbie, gas tank is raised a couple inches, inboard shock mounts-

Moved springs back-

Anti-wrap bar-

Hey can anybody tell me if 3/4" cold-rolled mild carbon steel is strong enough for a steering shaft? Mine's too short now that I need to move the steering box forwards and I've got a length laying around...thanks!
Dave

looks sweet!

question about the track bar. How much distance is between the front bushing and where the two bars come together. i only ask because i have seen track bars bend in that area.

I don't mean to criticise, just thought i would give some advice.

It's adjusted all the way in due to relatively low suspension lift. Yea, I've heard they bend there, too! If/when it bends I'll go with B.C. Bronco's rod end track bar or make one. Thanks for the input, always welcome!

Dave

I thought about putting the half ton stuff under the XJ but I figured the uni-body wouldn't last long with the trails I want to hit! I can throw body panels at the EB whenever needed. Once the XJ is twisted it's done...
